The Ancient Americas at the Field Museum

The “Robert R. McCormick Halls of the Ancient Americas” at the Field Museum is all about survival. With history spanning the last 13,000 years, the exhibit tells the story of the people who lived in the Americas and their population expansion and continued innovation across the continent. Occupying 19,000 square feet, the exhibit hosts 2,200 artifacts as well as interactive media stations and to-scale reconstructions. Our lighting design complemented the stories told in the exhibit and provided a curated approach to the sensitive objects it contained.

We created specifically tailored lighting for multiple recreations throughout the space, along with 100 artifact cases through the utilization of detailed fiber optic lighting. The lighting needed to be both sensitive to the artifacts it lit, as well as implemented in a timely manner for limited interference with audience experience. Our non-intrusive design doesn’t detract from the amazing history on display, and fully immerses guests in the incredible stories being told.
