Saint Joseph’s Hospital’s 38,000 SF Presence Center is an ambulatory care center designed by CallisonRTKL and intended to be a warm and welcoming space that feels more like a luxury hotel than a hospital. Morlights worked with the architects to create this environment by using both decorative and architectural LED lighting and advanced controls. For example, the use of decorative but highly functional pendants in the lobby of the Cancer Center give a feeling of serenity but are also easy to clean and maintain. In the treatment rooms, nurses stations, and MRI/surgical suites, we recommended using only LED lights and digital controls, making the lighting friendlier overall for patients without compromising the medical staff’s work, and also reducing the hospital’s overall energy usage. We reduced the number of luminaires by half compared to the electrical engineer’s design saving the project money and reducing the energy use of the building.
