Park Monroe

Park Monroe is an upscale mixed-use building in Chicago’s downtown area, with office buildings on the lower levels topped by nine floors of luxury condominiums. The original design featured neon lighting on the rooftop, but the installation had since fallen into disrepair. The building’s owners turned to Morlights for an updated rooftop lighting design that would restore the tower’s beautiful contribution to the skyline.

Morlights created a rooftop lighting update that utilized a cleaner, more sophisticated color palette for a modern look. Prior to construction, we mocked up our design to ensure an efficient implementation, and chose the elevator core as the site for installation given its extension above the roof line. Our design was implemented utilizing color changing LED luminaires for a fully visible lighting effect. While these LED lights were a more expensive purchase upfront, their cost-saving benefits in energy and maintenance more than justified the initial cost. The final design was executed using steel arms that extended from poles to hold the luminaires mounted in their respective pan and tilt positions, as well as an astronomical time clock that would turn the lights on and off and provide scheduled programming on certain holidays. Morlights’ rooftop display delivered a unique identity to the mixed-use tower, and increased visibility within its community.
