Offshore at Navy Pier

Navy Pier wanted their new bar Offshore to be more than a daytime tourist attraction. As the nation’s largest rooftop bar at 36,000 square feet, the bar is also distinctly Chicago. Stunning views of the Chicago Skyline and Lake Michigan surround the pier-end establishment, and a cocktail lounge, restaurant, game, and entertainment space cater to a myriad of audiences from families to theatre-goers. Morlights matched an innovative lighting design to the existing architecture, assisting Offshore in serving its diverse clientele with flexible programming.

Morlights knew that the establishment needed a unifying feature to integrate its different areas as well as the indoor-outdoor experience. Our solution introduced suspended, color-changing globes, which both offered a sophisticated design element to the space as well as a lighting transition to take the bar from day to night. We also expanded upon the nautical aesthetic, a nod to the bar’s historic setting. By giving Offshore the ability to move the bar from family-friendly in the day to metropolitan sophistication in the evening, we opened the doors for the establishment to serve as an exciting space for tourists and Chicagoans alike.
