After a hiatus in the suburbs, Hillshire Brands returned to downtown Chicago — its home for 60 years — in a brand-new, 220,000 square foot industrial building in the West Loop. Morlights teamed up with architect and interior designer Perkins+Will to design lighting for both guest-facing and internal spaces for the $75 million, LEED Gold-certified facility.
Utilizing a low-maintenance, low-energy design with fluorescent and LED lighting, Morlights helped Hillshire Brands meet its energy goals. Our Dali-protocol control system included motion sensors, keypads, and touch screens, as well as personal control capabilities and daylight options for optimal precision and flexibility. The dual approach of materials and system implementation resulted in our design coming in 40% below energy code. Morlights also collaborated extensively with the architect and engineer for a seamless design process, working in Revit for a coordinated approach as well as leveraging our professional expertise to create an excellent outcome. Morlight’s final design was not only energy efficient, but was delivered on time and on budget.
