Colleen Moore’s “Fairy Castle” in the Museum of Science Industry is a dollhouse-sized collection of suitably miniature artifacts, from a tiny painting by Walt Disney to miniature books signed by famous authors. Moore was a silent movies celebrity famous in the 1935s who created her dream home in miniature form, and her doll-sized castle has been delighting visitors for over 50 years. Morlights restored and relighted the castle, enhancing details and rooms like never before.
Past lighting designs had left the castle in shadow, as well as casting a distorting blue light. We used fittingly miniature LED ellipsoidal reflector spotlights and tunable LED PAR38 to retrofit the existing fixtures. Our new lighting design revealed parts of the castle that had been previously hidden, and added delightful effects like sunlight streaming through the ballroom window. With an updated lighting design, the “Fairy Castle” will continue to enchant visitors for years to come.
