Creating a seamlessly beautiful sanctuary
Creating a seamlessly beautiful sanctuary
When the discerning owners of Chicago’s most groundbreaking wellness space set out to pioneer a new concept that combines both Eastern and Western medicine, fitness and wellness classes and social spaces for a members-only clientele, the space, in the historic Montgomery Ward building, had to say it all. A “lavish, design-forward sanctuary” that supports good health and visually soothes or stimulates visitors as needed, Bian is built on exquisite design.
Charged with providing an end-to-end lighting design that creates an atmosphere of holistic health and social well-being, Morlights created extensive modeling during the design phase to offer clear visuals that describe precise, subtle effects in an accurate, easy-to-understand format.
A desire for indirect light throughout presented a series of challenges as the Morlights team found solutions for spaces that included yoga studios with ceiling heaters that reduced the lighting area to the perimeter of the room; medical spaces that feature a custom, curved cove and lounges that enjoy ample daylight but require deeply atmospheric, dimmable lighting for nighttime gatherings.
Morlights’ firm-standard digital controls allowed for easy end-user interface and the precision needed to offer a specific range of lighting scenarios across multiple environments; the firm’s trademark ingenuity powered solutions that create soft, enveloping, healing light in every space.
“We all know light has a direct connection to how we feel. Working on the Bian project was a beautiful illustration of that, creating lighting designed to make people feel healthy and restored.”—Avi Mor
