Amphibians at the Shedd Aquarium

The John G. Shedd Aquarium’s temporary exhibit “Amphibians” gave visitors the opportunity to see the habitats of amphibians of all kinds. With over 30 habitats and 40 species, the exhibit was an in-depth exploration of the physical and environmental challenges amphibians face. Morlights worked with the tightly controlled habitats to create a lighting design that would offer flexibility for “Amphibians,” as well as future exhibits, without harming the sensitive ecosystems.

Using the existing track system, we introduced dimmable, color tunable LED PAR lamps and small theatrical LED fixtures to the central control center. This gave the Shedd unprecedented control and flexibility over the lighting design with no maintenance needed. We also designed the lighting for the exhibit, enhancing the graphics with lighting that extended the color themes of the animal habitats. This created a consistent, cohesive design throughout the exhibit, without sacrificing future options for programming.
