The “Abbott Hall of Conservation: Restoring Earth” exhibit at the Field Museum celebrates the scientific research and global conservation performed by the museum. Through videos, graphics, and hands-on activities, visitors gain an in-depth glimpse at the important work performed by Field Museum scientists all over the world. We worked with the Field Museum to enhance existing graphics and artifact cases, and provided intuitive structure to the exhibit.
While the graphics and large-scale photography throughout the exhibit needed a visual enhancement, Morlights also wanted to ensure that our lighting was sensitive to the delicate artifacts located throughout. We worked within these parameters, and eventually installed the first fully LED lighting plan within the museum. We also provided a lighting design for the theater, programming effects to correspond with mood shifts and scene changes during the educational films. Finally, our lighting gave the exhibit structure and helped direct the flow of visitors, from lighting to assist patrons in finding their theater seats to visual light displays announcing the arrival to a new section of the exhibit. By providing a suitable platform for the exhibit’s displays and introducing new pathfinding designs, we were proud to assist the Field Museum in offering a close-up encounter with the critical conservation efforts they perform every day.
