Designer

Zahi Barajas is an architectural lighting designer with a strong foundation in architecture and advanced expertise in lighting design production and BIM coordination. Originally trained as an architect in Mexico, Zahi brings a deep understanding spatial design, and technical documentation to every project.

After relocating to Chicago in 2014, he furthered his education in Chicago, earning an associate in architecture. He joined Morlights as a Junior Lighting Designer in 2022 and has since advanced to the role of Lighting Designer, specializing in lighting production, technical documentation, and BIM integration.

Zahi plays a key role in translating design concepts into precise, buildable lighting documentation. His work bridges creativity and constructability, ensuring that projects are executed with clarity, coordination, and technical excellence. With strong proficiency in BIM workflows and production standards, he contributes to delivering visually
impactful lighting designs.

His architectural background, combined with hands-on construction experience prior to entering the lighting field, allows him to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and contractors throughout all phases of design and execution.

As part of the Morlights team, Zahi supports the firm’s mission of balancing imagination with practicality, using light as a medium to elevate environments, enhance user experience, and create meaningful visual connections.

He is a member of IES and an associate member of IALD, continuing to expand his professional development within the lighting design community.
